Author Visits

Books have the power to entertain, educate, and change how we see the world.

I love talking with children and adults about books and writing and the writing process. I have taught elementary school children as well as college students and community members. I’ve served as a Reader for a top Literary Agency and love to talk about the editing and revising side of writing. Speaking engagements are a wonderful way to promote literacy and the love of books and learning. I am happy to visit schools, libraries, workshops, conferences, and other writing/reading venues. Below are presentation options and visits can also be customized to meet your needs.

The Power of Reading: Stepping Inside Stories (Grades 1-3)

In this engaging read-aloud experience, students discover how books have the power to transport us to new worlds, spark imagination, and help us see the world differently. Through reading aloud, discussion, and audience participation, students learn that reading isn’t just something we do, it’s an adventure we step into. 30-45 minutes depending on group age and size.

The Power of Stories: From Idea to Book (Grades 2-3)

How does a book begin? In this presentation, students explore how ideas grow into stories and how authors use imagination, characters, and structure to create books that people love to read. Students leave empowered to see themselves as writers and to understand that their ideas—big or small—have the power to become stories. 30-45 minutes depending on group age and size.

The Power of Truth: Writing Nonfiction That Matters (Grades 3-6)

Nonfiction books have the power to teach, inform, and inspire change. In this session, students learn how authors turn curiosity and questions into nonfiction writing. They’ll explore research, structure, and voice while discovering how true stories and real facts can be just as powerful—and exciting—as fiction.
